Comprehensive Properties of Grafted Polypropylene Insulation Materials for AC/DC Distribution Power Cables

Polypropylene (PP) exhibits excellent insulation properties, high thermo-stability, and recyclable nature, thus expected to be the next-generation material for HV cable application. Chemical grafting modification is an effective technology improve electrical properties of polypropylene. In this paper, we develop report a new-type grafted PP by water-phase technology. The comprehensive including electrical, thermal, mechanical it are tested compared with traditional material—crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE). results show that holds superior thermal enough flexibility. significant advantages, resistivity enhanced nearly two degrees magnitudes, AC/DC breakdown strength raised over 20%, obviously suppressed space charge accumulation. These indicate very suitable application in systems, either AC or DC. This research lays foundation development polypropylene cables at higher voltage levels.
